We represent a 19-year-old woman who suffered life-changing injuries when the driver of tractor trailer ran a red light and slammed into her car. The driver and owner of the truck have been indicted by a grand jury on first-degree felony charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
On June 11, 2006, our client was returning to Palestine from a college that had granted her a soccer scholarship the same day. As she went through a green light, a tractor-trailer hauling oil field equipment ran a red light and slammed into her car. At that instant, our client’s bright future changed for the worse. She suffered severe internal injuries and numerous broken bones. She was in a coma for six weeks and spent 14 months in hospitals and rehabilitation centers.
We took responsibility for our client’s lawsuit after it was filed, and did a lot of hard work preparing for trial by taking depositions and reviewing hundreds of documents. What we found was that the driver hadn’t held a valid license for at least five years, and the tractor trailer owner had let the vehicle fall into such disrepair that it shouldn’t have been allowed on the road.
We went to trial on February 9, 2010. One week later, an Anderson County jury unanimously found three parties responsible for our client’s injuries and awarded her $8.6 million. This verdict is among the largest personal injury verdicts in Anderson County history.
The court has granted our client a judgment and she has not collected any money for her injuries. However, no amount of money will return our client’s future. Our hope is that any money our client might receive will make her future as good as it can be.
In representing our client, we collaborated with Dick Swift of Palestine and Brad Rock Reagan of Austin. Often it is important to work with other counsel in order to achieve the best results possible for our mutual clients. Our firm prides itself on fighting for victims of careless acts. Please consider us if you or your loved one is injured in an accident.
No two cases are the same, and the result of any case is dependent upon the facts. |
